French beaded flowers:  winter rose poinsettia

In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a small potted poinsettia plant. It is a variety that I found at the floral section of Home Depot called “Winter Rose.” The flower itself measures 5 inches (12.7 cm) in diameter and is approximately 9 inches (22.8 cm) in height.

Techniques:

  • Continuous Split Basic
  • Basic Frame
  • Scallop
  • Spokes
  • Continuous Loops
  • Continuous Cross-over loops

Materials:

  • 70 grams 11/0 red seed beads
  • 70 grams 11/0 dark  green seed beads  *
  • < 1 gram 11/0 yellow seed beads
  • 24 gauge red copper-core wire (20 yard spool)
  • 26 gauge red copper-core wire (30-inch (76.2 cm) length)
  • 22 gauge green copper-core wire (15 yard spool)
  • 30 gauge red copper-core wire (8 feet)
  • 30 gauge green copper-core wire (12 feet)
  • 3 lengths of 16 gauge stem wire –approx. 9 to 11 inches (22.8 to 27.9 cm)
  • Floral tape
  • 1 skein DMC embroidery floss

*To create two toned leaves as shown, here is the break down of greens:

  • 40 grams dark green beads
  • 30 grams light green beads mixed with dark

Potting Materials:

  • 3 X 3 inch (7.6 cm) pot/ candle holder
  • Small rocks or pebbles
  • Floral clay or modelling clay
  • Acrylic water

You may not need all of these potting materials. Look at potting instructions to decide what you need.
