new Continuous Split Basic technique and water lily/lotus video master course

Level: Advanced

Techniques: Continuous Split Basic, Basic Frame, Ruffles, Fringe, Beaded Stem

Let’s learn another new technique! I wasn’t sure if I wanted to introduce this technique or introduce it with a pdf project. My husband and children went out of their way to procure a real water lily for me to study and I’ve been too excited about this project to keep the technique under wraps any longer.

First about the water lily… my husband and older children were walking by a public pond when they saw water lilies and decided to get one for me. I was so giddy all day! Though the sad thing was that I didn’t get a chance to take photos right away when we got home and by the time I was able to, the water lily had closed. My googler told me that water lilies close at night and reopen in the morning. I put it out in the sun in the morning and it was starting to open. But I think it was too sunny out and the water in the jar was kind of cooking the flower. Oye!

I wasn’t even going to take the flower apart like I would normally do with a flower study because it is just so rare. The shape was simple enough and I was able to compare the shape easily. But since it wasn’t going to open again, I took all the petals apart. Now I have a water lily that will be open forever!

For the beaded water lily, I did two colorways. One in just all white and the other with whites in various finishes and clear.

Continuous Split Basic

Let’s talk about the Continuous Split Basic. I came up with this technique as I was working on some jewelry and looking for ways to make all the components on one wire to keep the bulk down. The basis for the CSB is that having the basic wire long and then turning that into the new twisted wire. You can make as many petals as you want as long as you don’t mind the long basic wire. I coil the wire up and keep it out of the way. Watch the free video on the technique here:

Hi I’m nit sure how to get in contact with you you can’t keave comments on your YouTube videos and I couldnt find an email. I was wondering If you have a video or pattern on creating Salix ( Pussy Willow) I’m a beginner and I dont think that would be a difficult start project. Could you give me some guidance on where I can find how to make these? Thanks you
